EDM is a group effort: Nikhil Chinapa

MUMBAI: One of the growing music genres amongst the youth today is dance music and one of the prime contributors for getting EDM to India was the renowned VJ – founder of Submerge Nikhil Chinapa. Though he believes that his contribution is nothing as compared to the people who brought to India 20 years back.
“I don’t take credit for bringing EDM music to India. It’s a group effort and a lot of people before me have worked hard to get it started so I cannot take the credit alone. If anyone in India or around the world say that he or she is responsible in bringing dance music to India then that person is truly foolish.” Chinapa told Radioandmusic.com
He further added that his company Submerge came up with the idea of Electronic Dance Music (EDM) and was a platform for the people to socialise. “With Submerge, we have dance music fans that have become friends and they will remain friends for life that is something that we cherish.”
When asked about his view on Bollyboom festival which is the mix of Bollywood songs with EDM, Chinapa said, “I read it recently that the creators of Sunburn have come up with the Bollywood property but I have nothing to do with it. I wish that people stop saying it as the creators of Sunburn.” He further added that he hopes the best for the new property and preferred not to comment much about it.
“Currently, EDM is the second most popular music genre after Bollywood and the rhythms beats have been incorporated in Bollywood today. It is like both the worlds have been married happily and are living an amazing life together.” he stated.
“In India, EDM itself is going to get more and more polarized and will notice we will different bunch of Indians creating their own fan following which will be great for the music space,” Chinapa concluded.
