IMA`s Idea Jalsa to tour 24 Indian cities

MUMBAI:The Indian Music Academy`s (IMA) concert series, Idea Jalsa, now in its second year, will begin on 28 September 2007.The series will cover 24 cities across India to promote young artists specialising in Indian classical music (Hindustani as well as Carnatic) Sufi, Bhajan and Ghazals.

The series of concerts will be held in Cochin, Trivandrum, Benaras, Bhopal, Dehradun, Jabalpur, Shimla, Indore, Lucknow, Jaipur, Delhi, Udaipur, Raipur, Baroda, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Pune, Nasik, Mumbai, Panjim, and Patna, and will have a performance of one legendary artist from the field after the young talented maestro, followed by a unique interactive session between the music lovers and the artists.

The Indian Music Academy, formed in 2006, is dedicated to the cause of reviving Indian Music by providing a platform to the youngsters thereby enhancing its popularity to the younger generation. Veteran artists like Pandit Jasraj, Pandit Shivkumar Sharma, Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia, Ustad Zakir Hussain, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Asha Bhosle, Dr Balmurli Krishna, Dr Lalgudi Jayraman and Pyarelal would be performing in various cities providing young artists an opportunity to share the stage with them, says a release.

Last year, the series encompassed 12 cities.
