Indian Ocean collaborates with African musicians for World Africa Day

MUMBAI: As part of ‘IndiAfrica: A Shared Future initiative’, indie-folk band Indian Ocean collaborated with African musicians for a concert on 'World Africa Day' in Delhi.

The renowned band teamed up with young hip-hop group Slumgods, African dance troupe Horn of Africa and Nigerian group Amazing Talent, to deliver a mix of African and Indian folk numbers.

Supported by the Public Diplomacy division of the Ministry of External Affairs, the concert also featured the band’s popular songs including ‘Melancholic Ecstasy’, ‘Jhini’, Kandisa, ‘Des Mera’ and ‘Bandeh’. Currently studying in India, Amazing Talent- the student’s band also presented a medley of African music and Bollywood numbers.

Speaking with PTI, vocalist and guitarist of the band Susmit Sen said, "I think this is the first time we are ever playing with African artists in India. We have done that in Africa which was fantastic...Would love to go back there whenever given a chance."

The event was managed by design and strategy firm theIdeaWorks.

Commenting on the initiative, theIdeaWorks CEO Amit Shahi said, “The objective is to bring two billion thinking minds to compete, collaborate and co-create a better future for all. When two billion people start to build a dream together, a new history can be scripted. In today’s global scenario when global cooperation is the key to success, the youth of a country can play a vital role in creating a more connected world and in turn a better future for all.”
