India's indie- pop bands support girl child

MUMBAI: Four of the country's top bands have lent their talent to the cause of girl child. Members of Parikrama, Indus Creed, Indian Ocean and Euphoria have contributed to 'Because I am a girl' campaign, an initiative by the NGO Plan India.

Palash Sen from Euphoria has written and composed the theme song while Nitin Malik from Parikrama, Rahul Ram and Amit Kilam from Indian Ocean and Uday Benegal from Indus Creed have lent voices to the song.

Speaking with Radioandmusic.com, Sen said, "After being approached by Plan India for the campaign, I developed an idea for the song and I shared it with them and they liked it. Then I spoke to members of Parikrama, Indian Ocean and Indus Creed who all were excited to be a part of the campaign. We recorded Parikrama and Indian Ocean in Delhi and Uday Benegal (Indus Creed) in Mumbai."

He also roped in half of Lady Sri Ram (LSR) Western Music Society choir for the chorus and backing vocals.

"One of our backing vocalists (of Euphoria) is from the LSR choir and I asked her to arrange for half the 24-member choir since we could not afford the whole choir," he said.

The song will be released and the venue of the concert will be announced at a press conference to be held on 25 September in Mumbai. The bands will perform at  a concert to be held on 10 October in Mumbai.

"We are all in because the cause is really huge. Audience can donate any amount for the cause at the concert. If the youth today can understand the cause, they can act on society and make changes," he added.
