Mirchi bags 11 honours at 33rd Rapa Awards

MUMBAI: Radio Mirchi walked away with the lion's share at the 33rd Radio and Television Advertising Practitioners' Association of India (Rapa) awards with 11 metals, followed by Big FM which harvested a bounty of eight awards.

At the Rapa awards function held in Mumbai on Tuesday evening, the coveted best radio jockey (male) award was shared by Radio Mirchi Mumbai 's Jeeturaj and Red FM Delhi 's Nitin, while Radio One Mumbai 's Tarana was adjudged the best female radio jockey. Radio Mirchi Chennai's Devasana was named best radio jockey (female) in the Tamil language, and Club FM Kochi's Anjana walked away with similar honours in Malayalam.
Radio Mirchi's awards included the Radio Jingle Marwari and Tamil, Radio Spot Bengali and Gujarati, Radio Trailor Hindi and Tamil, Radio Sponsored programme non-fiction and the Radio Sponsored humour Kannada award, among others.

Big FM took home eight awards, Red FM, Radio One, World Space bagged five awards in various categories each. Veteran radio personalities like Ameen Sayani and Sarita Sethi, as well as well known television host Tabassum gave away the various awards. Kochi's Club FM also managed two awards - one for the Best Radio sponsored programme (humour) and one for jingle composition. Delhi's Hit FM scored a hit with its channel produced radio programme in English, Hit Mornings.

The Rapa K K Suvarna trophy for Outstanding Voice Performer was bagged by Sunil Grover, while the Rapa D S Mittle trophy for Campaign of the Year on radio was bagged by Red FM's Virag Mishra for 'Kavi ke Kapana'.

In the music categories, Zee's Sa Re Ga Ma Pa was adjudged the best music singing/dance contest on TV, while Doordarshan Mumbai's Music Masti Gappa Gani was given the best music singing (Marathi) award. The same award in the Telugu section was given to Maa Television Network's Rela Re Rela. Sony soap Amber Dhara's music video and music TVC also fetched awards.

Rapa this year, expanded its reach to cover 63 categories in 15 Indian languages. Over 60 entries had been received in the radio jockey and TV anchor categories, while the public service advertising categories saw more than 50 entries. The 33rd Rapa Awards also introduced a new category - short film produced by media students of various institutes.
