Music label BMG shuffles ranks
MUMBAI: Legendary music executive Clive Davis has been replaced by Barry Weiss as chairman and CEO of the BMG label group.
Two other BMG executives also departed in the label revamp.As head of BMG, Weiss will oversee RCA Records, Jive, J Records, LaFace, Arista, Volcano, Verity, GospoCentric and Fo Yo Soul.Before his stint with BMG, he oversaw several labels as president and CEO of the Zomba Label Group. He helped grow Jive Records from a small imprint to a major force with blockbuster acts with Britney Spears, Usher, the Backstreet Boys, Justin Timberlake and 'N Sync. His recent successes include teen sensation Chris Brown and singer-songwriter T-Pain.
While parent company Sony BMG announced that Davis will become Chief Creative Officer of Sony BMG and will continue to work with top artists in his new position, says an AP report. Over several decades, he has shepherded the careers of musicians from Whitney Houston, Bruce Springsteen, Rod Stewart and Barry Manilow to recent "American Idol" star like Kelly Clarkson.
BMG label group is overseen by Rolf Schmidt-Holtz, CEO of Sony BMG Music Entertainment.
