Now A R Rahman bags Grassroot Grammy

MUMBAI: One wonders if A R Rahman is on an award piling spree this year.

This time it's the 'Grassroot Grammy' held in the US where he was nominated with another music icon from the South, Ilayaraja. The oscar winning musician bagged the prize for his soundtrack in the Tamil film "Godfather" in the 'Best Indian album' category at the 'Just Plain Folks 2009 Music Awards' held this year in Nashville, US on 29 August. Bangla band 'Krosswindz' were among others nominated in the category.

Rahman also won the third place in the 'Best Indian Song' category for 'Innisai' (Radio Mix) from "Godfather" while his 'Illamai' was fifth in the same category. Whereas, Ilyaraja's "Music Journey: Live in Italy" stood third in the 'Best Indian album' category. Classical music also received the recognition after Shweta Jhaveri's "Avishkar" clinched the first position in the 'Indian Classical and Traditional Album' category.
