Polish band Zakopower to perform in Mumbai

MUMBAI: Polish band Zakopower will perform live in Mumbai for the first time on 24 November at the NCPA.

Zakopower, that was nominated for the 'Best Polish Act' at the 2005 MTV Europe Music Awards, is part of the cultural line up which the Consulate General of Poland has drawn up celebrations to mark its 75th year in Mumbai and the 90th year of Poland's independence.

Combining traditional folk music of Polish Gorals with modern beats and rhythms, the band captures the quintessence of Polish music today. Seamlessly crossing and combining genres, they create an eclectic mix of music that spans electronic, pop and folk rock.

Among the other cultural events are - 'Faces of freedom,' a month long exhibition from 6th December, 2007 at the National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA) will showcase artwork of renowned 20th century Polish painters. The exhibition revolves around several aspects of the Polish struggle—Loss of independence, the oppressive regime, the fall of communism, and the final attainment of national and individual freedom.
