Radio One launches 'One Bengaluru One Music'

BANGALORE: Radio One launched the �One Bengaluru One Music' offering in the garden city of Bangalore today.

Representatives of bands such as Swarathma, Raghu Dixit, Thermal & a Quarter, Atomic Meltdown, Moon Arra amongst others signed on to take part on the platform that the station has provided to the bands in Karnataka to showcase their talent  Radio One will select among the bands that have signed on to perform on the station.

Radio One had earlier announced similar initiatives in four of the cities in which it is present – Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad and Pune, with Bangalore being the fifth city. Over the next few weeks, Radio One plans to offer this platform to bands in Chennai. At present the station though has no plans to take the offering to the seventh city that it operates in – Kolkata.

We don't have a specific title sponsor for the show as yet,... revealed Radio One national marketing head and station head Shyju Varkey. Some brands have evinced interest in the show, but it's still early days,... he added.

For the Bangalore show, �The Live Gig Networks' – a company which promotes music and musicians has been brought in as associates. The Live Gig will provide the artistes a platform locally to showcase their talent on a regular basis at accessible venues.

The station has managed to attract over 350 bands – with almost 180 in Mumbai and over 100 in Bangalore vying for chance to display their talents. Two bands per week will be allowed to play over a 30 minute period interspaced with jingle ads every Sunday evening between 5 - 6 pm. The Bangalore gig is to be hosted by MJ Rakesh. Initially the station plans to run this program over a 52 week period, and then depending upon the listeners response and the commercial viability, will take a decision for extension.
