Rahman to perform at Oscars

MUMBAI: A R Rahman has got an invitation to perform live at the Oscars.

According to industry reports, Rahman, along with playback singer Sukhwinder Singh, has been invited to open the 81st annual Academy Awards night, on 22 February to be held in Los Angeles, with the Oscar nominated song �Jai ho' from the original soundtrack of �Slumdog Millionaire'.

The music has been nominated in three categories and is considered a front runner in the Oscar race. 'Jai Ho' and 'O Saaya' have been nominated in the original song category with Rahman receiving nominations for the Best Original Score category.

�Slumdog...' won Rahman his first Golden Globe, besides more awards in other categories as well. The film is now being touted as the favourite for the Oscars.

Reports say Rahman has already started working on the song to adapt it to the live orchestra for his stage performance, though an official confirmation is still awaited  Lyricist Gulzar, who penned the song, is also expected to be present with his team when the famous ceremony gets underway.
