Ram Sampath returns with Aamir Khan's 'Talaash'

MUMBAI: The music of the much-awaited Aamir Khan starrer ‘Talaash’ is out. The music was launched by the cast and crew at the movie themed event on 18 October in Mumbai.

The six tracks of the album, composed by Ram Sampath with lyrics by Javed Akhtar, follow the theme and feel of the movie-a suspense drama with Khan playing the role of a Mumbai cop struggling with his past- dwelling in the twilight zone of suspicion and deceit.

Aamir Khan, Rani Mukherjee, Farhan Akhtar, Reema Kagti, Riteseh Sidhwani, Javed Akhtar, Sona Mohapatra, Zoya Akhtar, Raj Kumar Yadav and Bhushan Kumar were present at launch.

“I met Ram Sampath and we instantly gelled. We have similar aesthetic sense and he understands my vision. Time has proven me right,” director, Kagti said.

The lead track ‘Muskaanein Jhooti Hai’ by Suman Sridhar is a slow smokey swinging Jazz-cabaret song with a strong bassline. ‘Jee Le Zaraa’ by Vishal Dadlani is a space, slow piano based rock-pop ballad with strong electro-pop feel. The remix version of the song, also part of the film’s music is better with a proper beat that compliments the pleasant tune.

Sona Mohapatra and Ravindra Upadhay come together for ‘Jiya Laage Na’- a predictable fusion between folk-Sufi and electronic music. What sets the song apart is the start-stop rhythm, off-beat drumming and strong vocals that rise above the music.

Composer Sampath sings on two tracks. ‘Hona Hai Kya’ is a squarely in disco-electronica territory that supports Sampath’s less-than- impressive vocal talents. The next track ‘Laakh Duniya Kahe’ has Sampath singing a ballad with backing vocals by Nisha Mascarenhas. The mid-tempo song has Sampath repeatedly singing the chorus that builds into a crescendo.

“This is my first film with Ram and he belongs to a generation who has a fresh take on film music. He is fanatically original and the lines are like a collage which ultimately form an image. I can’t think of any song in the last few years with this kind of composition,” Javed Akthar said.

The music will be available in physical and digital formats.

The project jointly produced by Excel Entertainment and Aamir Khan Productions, stars Aamir Khan, Rani Mukerji and Kareena Kapoor in pivotal roles. Talaash is all set to release on November 30.

The music will be available in physical and digital formats.
