Sony BMG wins battle for 'Jannat' music rights

MUMBAI: Sony BMG has finally secured the music rights of 'Jannat - In search of Heaven' after Vishesh Films, the producers of the film, settled their long-drawn legal dispute with T-Series.

T-series withdrew its legal claims and both the parties have settled the issue amicably with the intervention of Pahlaj Nihalani, president of AMPTPP and Dispute Settlement Committee members.
Sony BMG had always claimed that the music rights of Jannat belonged to them. However, it had to be put under the scanner after T-Series claimed similar rights.

A compromise has been reached between T-Series and Vishesh Films in which T-Series had to withdraw its claims on the music rights and other accusations thus, handing over the exclusive rights to Sony BMG, a company release states.

The music of Jannat has created a lot of interest in trade circles because it has been composed by Pritam - who has had a string of hits last year like Jab We Met, Bhool Bhulaiya, Dhoom 2 and many more chartbusters. Additionally, Vishesh Films is known for belting out musical superhit albums - from classics like Aashiqui and Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahin to recent hits like Raaz, Murder, Zeher, Woh Lamhe and Gangster.

Vishesh Films has earlier been working only with T-Series and Saregama. With Jannat, Vishesh Films has taken their first step with Sony BMG as a long term music partner. With the legal dispute sorted out, Sony BMG will now begin aggressive marketing and promotions for the album.
