Babul benefits from TV despite being booted out
MUMBAI: Babul Supriyo, the Kishore Kumar soundalike, who was one of the strong contenders on NDTV Imagine's Dhoom Macha De and succeeded in bringing tears to the eyes of judges and fellow contestants alike, is out of the fray.
Apparently, all present on the sets were moved when Babul was struck out of the race, with rival Jaspinder even appealing to the judges to eliminate her instead of Babul. But the man himself is unfazed.
Babul says he is very happy with his achievement in Dhoom Macha De. When asked how important TV as a medium has been for him, he says, "Today, music is viewed and not heard, so TV has added an edge to my career and increased my fan following."
Rather than being saddened by the elimination, Babul seems much more excited about the imminent launch of his album. It seems Dhoom Mache De has laid the foundation of his music album that will be released by Universal this week. So was Babul in the show just increase his face value and lay a base for his album? Ahemm, this may be pure speculation, but missing the possibility of being in the finals along with the launch of an album is definitely the cause of some sadness, acknowledged or not!
