Music launch of Rock On

It was a night to remember. Monday evening at a suburban mall in Mumbai marked a lot of firsts, along with some mindblowing performances by musical trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and debut singer Farhan Akhtar.

The producer cum director, who wooed young audiences earlier with Dil Chahta Hai, and then Lakshya, has turned actor cum singer with his film Rock On, that comes in with a lot of expectations. So did the the film's music launch on 7 July.

The music launch of this rock band based film was held at the Inifinity Mall in Andheri. The fun packed two hour long event witnessed everything first-rate, except for the inappropriate venue for a rock concert. To start off, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy's uber performance left everyone hollering and singing and asking for more. The trio swept the crowd off their feet with a soulful rendition of their debut track, Dil Chahta Hain, bringing back memories of their first association with Akhtar. They then pulled the crowd closer with the Hrithik starrer song 'main aisa kyun hoon,' another reference to their Akhtar - association with Lakshya. The interaction with the people and press was something to see. They kept the herd engaged with their mystifying performances, leaving them screaming for more.
If this was not enough, Shankar blew off minds with Don and Aaj Ki Raat. The latter was sung by newbie Akriti Kakkar as well. Then came the hardrock songs by Rock On sung by Akhtar junior himself. Though a little off-tune, Farhan has learnt the tactics of absorbing the crowd already. He certainly came across as an experienced rock singer with a flawless performance. Girls couldn't help but drool over Farhan's rockstar look!

The concert was welcomed by Big Picture head Ramesh Ramanathan, Big Music CEO Kulmeet Makkar and Big FM COO Tarun Katial. The film stars present amongst the crowd were Arjun Rampal, Luke Kenny, Purab Kohli, Koel Puri, Prachi Desai, Abhishek Kapoor (director) from the film, Akhtar's parents - Javed Akhtar, Honey Irani and Shabana Azmi, turned out to support their son on the stage. The crowd went crazy spotting Rampal in his cool bandana and kept calling out to him. It was the very look of these four rock guys which left everyone breathless. His throwing away Rock On CDs in the crowd was another attractive feature of the evening.

It was indeed a rocking music launch, definitely a few notches different from the traditional cocktail-n-filmi air music launches one is so used to in this metropolis. Rock on guys!
