Ragini MMS music which created buzz in media by aquiring the rights of legendary SD Burman's evergreen track Raat Akelie Hai, has a limited choice of songs to offer to its listeners. It is one of the shortest albums, with just 2 original tracks, 2 old tracks and 2 recreated bonus tracks. Even though the album is limited, it has succeeded in arousing the eerie feeling of the movie within the listeners
The best part of album is that it doesn't follow the current Bollywood trend of recreating the old legendary tracks, but instead the songs retains its original character and has not been worked upon or remixed. It's used in its original form.
The album kick starts with one of the seductive song of 60's Raat akeli hai' from the block buster Jewel Thief rendered by Asha Bhosle and scored by SD Burnam. The song re-used in Ragini renders the required sensuous feeling and suits the aura of the film and overall album. The original song was pictured in an ornate room on Tanuja in a white gown seducing Dev Anand and now it remains to be seen how Ragini MMS features the track.
The second song on album is a romantic song, Itne Kareeb aao' sung by Raaj and penned by Virag Mishra, which is one of the original songs of the film. The song is sung in a very sensuous tone and the music is composed with the basic jazz instruments and without much of orchestration or number of instrumental variation. The less of variation and soft piano notes in a song, lends something new for listeners to hear.
Preceding the romantic song is the title track of the movie Ragini' which will be the best background score for the movie. The rap done by Faizan Hussain and Agnel Roman is the foremost feature of the song and flows with the theme of the movie.
The album ends with You are my Chicken Fry (Remix)' - another old composition of disco king Bappi lahiri and Shweta Shetty. The music of the song is recreated by Zoheb king with high octaves and upbeat tempos. The basic components of the song remain the same.
The album also adds a bonus tracks of two old compositions Liya Liya – Chura Liya' an rendition of Chura liya tumne jo Dil ko' from Yaadon ki Baarat' and Dum Maro Dum' from Hare Krishna Hare Ram' is recreated by DJ Aqeel.
Apart from the anchor lyrics Liya Liya – Chura liya' the rest of the song flows with original lyrics. Chura liya has a complete refrained disco and jazz music with full orchestration. Dum Maro Dum track is a clever mixture of old Zeenat Aman song's lyrics and with various tempo beats. The bonus track of Dum Maro Dum sung by Anusha Mani could have been better in terms of vocals. But the track has complete potential to rule party and club charts.
Overall the album is a perfect example of less is more. One can say that album has succeeded in bringing back and maintaining the essence of songs from golden era The album doesn't provide much for a music buff, who looks forward for innovative music but it definitely stick to the theme of the movie Ragini MMS.
