Well Done Abba

Music Director: Shantanu Moitra

Lyricists: Ila Arun, Ashok Mishra and Swanand Kirkire

Ratiing: 3/5

After scoring music for 3 Idiots, composer Shantanu Moitra is back with Well Done Abba. The album features 5 tracks - largely with a mass appeal, but being a trademark Moitra album, it rests on melody at the core. There are no remixes, to add.

The album opens with 'Meri Banno Hoshiyar' which may instantly throw you back in the 'Genda Phool Groove'. Though you may find some distant similarities, Moitra has done a fab job in mixing some Tamil and Rajastani folk. Also, look out for the jazzy harmonium work. Singer Ila Arun does what she is known for, and is joined by Daniel B. George. Quite an hybrid track.

The love ballad 'Sandesa Sandesa' by Shreya Ghoshal and Rupankar comes in next. The song is perhaps one of the best tracks on the album. And what makes it really stand out? It certainly has to dow with the fresh voice of Rupankar which is supported by experienced singer like Shreya Ghoshal. The duo sound great together, and Rupankar may just be the fresh voice the composers may be looking for. Give this one a hear, you won't regret.

Mohit Chauhan and Swanand Kirkire comes in next on Hum toh Apni Bawdi Lenge - a satirical fun track that takes digs at politics and ironies. For a change, Mohit is being offered something he's not done before. Swanand Kirkire, as usual, sounds rustic and raw. The track is situational, but intelligent.

Reality show singer Raja Hasan was heard complaining on TV show on why reality show singers are not considered for playback. Interestingly he sings two sufi influenced songs on the album - Rahiman Ishq Ka Dhaga Re and Paani ko Taraste. Both extremely well sung. While the slow paced Rahiman... has melancholic feel to it, Paani ko Taraste has Rahmanic feel to it. The situational track speaks of water scarcity. Quite meaningful.
