Ishaan: Bappi Lahiri the saving grace

Album: Ishaan

Artists: Various

Label: Disney

Price: 149 /-

Ishaan is a pure pop-rock album targeting hip young teeny-boppers and definitely wrapped around the content of Ishaan, the Disney series which is a Red Chillies Entertainment production.

Like the Disney series, Ishaan the album talks about the importance of friendship, encouraging young listeners to be themselves and to go after their dreams in spite of failures. Overall, the album is definitely not record-breaking like the Hannah Montana or High School Musical albums, but it's not bad either. And having watched the Disney series, one can appreciate how well it fits the storyline and takes it forward. With the video in place, the songs are very intelligent musical complements – lyrics, mood, voices et al.

The music of Anand Ranganathan, Dhruv Ghanekar, Kaizad Gerda and Kabir Singh resonates the show's theme of fun and friendship.

While the album -- featuring four music directors, two lyricists and 8 young singers across 8 songs -- would work superbly to complement and drive the story of the TV series, on the memorability-of-melodies score, it, well, doesn't quite score. However, having said that, the Bappi Lahiri revival it offers us, through a bonus track called Disco featuring fun- and mindless lyrics set to a truly stylish, power-laced bassy beat, is superb – this track should rule the night clubs.

Other singers the album features include Remo Ghosh, Debopriya (June) Bannerjee, Rajiv Sundaresan, Kaizad Gerda, Pawni Pandey and Nikhil D'Souza.

Overall, the songs on the album have a contemporary pop feel and range from fun-filled catchy tunes like Pyari Yari Dosti, to acoustic love ballads like Jo Pyaar Ho Raha Hai. The lyrics of the songs Swapno ko Awaz de, Pyari Yari Dosti, Dinchak and Khwab ye kal ke is likable and depicts typical college days. Apart from Bappi Lahiri's Disco, these are the better tracks in the album  Irfan Siddiqui and P.A. Sreekanth,  who are known for their work in Fashion and the Star One series Remix,  have written lyrics targeting teenagers.
