MUMBAI: Paroma Dasgupta is a singer and songwriter who is known for songs like Kaara Fankaara, Coffee Peetey Peetey from the movies Ok Jaanu and Gabbar Is Back respectively. She has been an active voice in the Bollywood industry as well as for the jingles of advertisements.
Explaining how she got her first advertisement, Paroma said, "Previously the situation was totally different, if you had to get an advertisement you would have had to go personally to meet the composer and give him a demo; I did not have a recorded demo, so I sang live in front of the composers and then they approached me for the song.” She has also been a channel boy for various promos and advertisements of various channels.
Paroma got a major break in her career with Ram Gopal Varma’s movie Department where she sang Dan Dan Cheeni. Her first major Bollywood debut was with the 2008 movie Dil Kabaddi. Revealing details about her first break, the singer said, “A friend of mine, Vinod Varma who is a sound engineer introduced me to music composer Sachin Gupta, in front of whom I sang some scratches, after which I got selected to sing for that movie.”
Paroma’s recent mashup, which had two of RD Burman songs Meri Bheegi Bheegi Si and Mone Pore Ruby Roy has got more than one million views. She has also appeared on television in musical shows such as Jam Room and Soundtrek for Sony Mix and Foxlife respectively.
She has a mashup of Naa Jaane Kyun and the English number You belong to me alongside Kamakshi Rai. Besides, she will seen in a Bollywood single of an upcoming movie directed by Anand L. Rai and she is also doing a single composed by her friend Rajiv and penned by Lyricist Vayu.
