Shankar Ehsaan Loy to compose for Star soap

MUMBAI: After dabbling with various reality shows on television, composer trio Shankar Ehsaan and Loy will now compose for a soap opera on one of the Star channels. The trio will compose the tittle track for producer Yash Patnaik's forthcoming soap called 'Paheli.' Sources say the trio have have been roped in to provide a fresh sound for the title track. Though Patnaik refused to divulge details about the track composed by SEL, he added, "The recording of the song is yet to be done and it is most likely to happen next week."

General Motors India brings Parikrama, Saif to Bangalore

BANGALORE: General Motors India (GM-India) has organized a â€?Beat Concert' by the Delhi based â€?rock n roll' band Parikrama (orbital revolutions) and Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan on 31 January at the Palace Grounds in Bangalore  The event will be preceded by a media interaction with GM-India brand ambassador Saif Ali Khan. Parikrama has earlier toured and performed at various metro cities with Khan in the past.

iPad offers 140 hours of music playback

MUMBAI:  The much hyped new product from Apple, iPad can deliver six days' backup for music playback. Apple CEO Steve Jobs has revealed that their latest product Apple iPad is capable of delivering battery backup of six days if it is only used for music playback. The screen needs to be disabled to achieve this. With the IPS display turned on, the iPad should last up to 10 hours.

Sangeet Natak Akademi, Goa tableux get top prizes for R Day parade

NEW DELHI: The Sangeet Natak Akademi's tableaux at the Republic Day parade depicting classical music instruments has been awarded the first prize for being the best of the 21 tableaux this year. The Akademi's tableau showcased musical instruments like the veena, shankha, dumsa, santoor and the tabla — symbolising the rich diversity of Indian culture. The Sangeet Natak Akademi is under the Union Culture ministry.

Sangeet Natak Akademi chairman Ram Niwas Mirdha dead

NEW DELHI: Prime minister Manmohan Singh has condoled the demise of senior Congress leader and Sangeet Natak Akademi Chairman Ram Niwas Mirdha who died on Friday following multiple organ failure. The 87-year old Mirdha, a former Speaker of Rajasthan Assembly, was admitted to a private hospital on 21 January  after he was diagnosed with a kidney infection. Mirdha is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter.

Reliance Media World reports revenue of Rs 493 mn

MUMBAI: Reliance Media World Limited  which runs radio station Big FM, along with  allied businesses, Big Street, Big Reach, Big Events, Big Live, Big Digital and Big Rural has reported total income of Rs 493.6 million for the quarter ended 31 December 2009. The company's operations turned EBITDA positive during the quarter and EBITDA for the quarter stood at Rs 27.9 million. This was credited to increase in revenues, controlled costs and expanded Client base.

Liberty wrapping up Worldspace purchase

MUMBAI: Liberty Satellite Radio is wrapping up its purchase of satellite radio company Worldspace, reports website Rapidtvnews. Documents filed before a US Bankruptcy Court show that an agreement has been reached. Liberty has, to date, paid a total of US$19.6m to keep Worldspace afloat. In India, Worldspace has been silent since the beginning of 2010. Liberty, that was expected to pick up the India operations of the Indian arm, apparently changed its mind only in December 2009, leaving subscribers and employees alike, in the lurch.
