The company recently tied up with a few Indian artists and is planning a 360 degree activity around their albums and performances. Worldwide group brings American Idol DVDs to India

MUMBAI: Worldwide Group's home video label Worldwide Home Entertainment has brought America's hugely popular music reality television show, 'American Idol' on DVD to India. The DVD & CD pack titled, 'The Best and The Worst of American Idol,' is a collection of television's most popular show American Idol's four most-talked about seasons. Worldwide Records managing director Ratnakar Kumar says, "This limited edition 3 disc set is being made with the serious American Idol fan in mind and includes an incredible Bonus Disc which is exclusively made available only on Worldwide Records."

Worldspace with STMicroelectronics to provide chips for EU & ME

MUMBAI: STMicroelectronics and Worldspace satellite have announced a partnership to develop, manufacture and distribute chips for European Satellite Digital Radio (ESDR) receivers. This has been planned for a Worldspace pan-European and Middle East service starting 2009 with Italy.

Lil Wayne's 'Tha Carter III' sells a million copies

MUMBAI: Rapper Lil Wayne's new album 'Tha Carter III,' sells more than one million copies in a single week. As per chart reports, issued on 18 June morning by Nielsen SoundScan, the album tops the R&B Hip Hop genre. In its first week in the market, the rapper's new album has sold just over one million units. The last album to top that milestone was 50 Cent's "The Massacre" in March 2005. In a slumping industry where selling 200,000 albums in one week is becoming a rare feat, Lil Wayne's achievement is not only a triumph but a much-needed boost to the industry.

Times Music launches Akbar Sami's Jalwa 2008

MUMBAI: After the success of Jalwa I and II, DJ Akbar Sami is all set with his new version of the theme. Jalwa 2008 will be launched under Times Music label in two months. The album will have eight tracks, one original composed by Jatin Sharma and penned by Amitabh Bhattacharya. It will have the trademark 'Dekho dekho yeh hai jalwa' track and six other Bollywood remixes. Times Music COO Adarsh Gupta says, "We produced Akbar's Jalwa eight years ago and we reunite for his third one."

Rituparno Ghosh's Khela is Saregama's first '08 release

MUMBAI: Saregama India has announced the launch of the music of Rituparno Ghosh's Khela, the first film to be rolled out from the Saregama stable this year. The music will be released on 28 June, and the film is slated to hit theatres on 11 July , nation wide in Hindi, and in Bengali in West Bengal. The film's music has been composed by a band from Kolkata called 21 Grams. The film stars Prosenjit, Manisha Koirala, and Raima Sen . Saregama's other projects this year include Karma, Confessions and Holi, Japanese Wife.

Tips signs new artists, plans new venture

MUMBAI: Tips Industries' artiste managemement arm has signed on 15 musicians, who will be promoted aggressively by the company. The artistes include Atif Aslam, Jal, Ahmed and Krishna, among others. Tips will produce their albums and do a 360 degree promotion. Says Tips Music and Artist Management MD Rajeev Sogani, "I see a very good future as far as artiste management is concerned. By next year, Tips should be getting very good returns." Currently, the company is focusing on a lot of Pakistani talent, since Sufi is the taste of the season.
