Hike FDI cap, allow FM radio to broadcast news: Trai

NEW DELHI: In a major shift in policy that meets a long-standing demand, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) has suggested increase in FDI (foreign direct investment) cap for private FM radio broadcasters and also recommended that they may be permitted to broadcast news. For those who are interested in broadcasting news, the FDI cap including FII should be hiked to 26 per cent from the present 20 per cent. And for the non-news category of FM radio operators, the cap should be enhanced to 49 per cent.

Times Music launches music of Hindi film Brahm

Mumbai: Times Music has unveiled the soundtrack of the movie Brahm. Produced by Magna Films, the film is slated to release in mid-March. The music of the film has been rendered by Pritam and Siddharth-Suhas. The audio comprises six tracks - Jaane kaisa ha tu, I am Bad Boy, Jaane kyun, Lagdaa naa lagdaa naa, Teri aakhaon ki narmi and Meri akhiyaan.The songs are sung by Shaan, Kay Kay, Sonu Nigaam and Richa Sharma. Directed by Pavan Kaul, Brahm stars Dino Morea, Milind Soman, Sheetal Menon and Simone Singh. Brahm is a suspense thriller revolving around relationships.

Sony BMG wins battle for 'Jannat' music rights

MUMBAI: Sony BMG has finally secured the music rights of 'Jannat - In search of Heaven' after Vishesh Films, the producers of the film, settled their long-drawn legal dispute with T-Series. T-series withdrew its legal claims and both the parties have settled the issue amicably with the intervention of Pahlaj Nihalani, president of AMPTPP and Dispute Settlement Committee members. Sony BMG had always claimed that the music rights of Jannat belonged to them. However, it had to be put under the scanner after T-Series claimed similar rights.

Internet music radio listenership up 26.1% in the US: Report

MUMBAI: A recent research by AccuStream iMedia found out that music radio online (live streaming channels and individual track plays) generated 4.85 billion total listening hours in 2007, which is 26.1% up over 2006. The total listening hours averaged 404.2 million hours per month in 2007 (excluding downloaded music) compared to 320.5 million hour in an average in 2006, which included leading music subscription services such as Napster, Yahoo Music and Rhapsody.

MUMBAI: Vehrnon Ibrahim is joining Radio One as national programming head on 3 March. He comes in from Red FM where he was the national programming head. Radio One CEO Vineet Singh Hukmani said, "Vehrnon is the only natural programming head in the radio industry and is a perfect fit for our metro city focus." Ibrahim said, "It is going to be fun steering this station brand to the top position. What attracted me to Radio One was the seven metro city focussed game plan."
