Big FM commences podcast of Hyderabad shows

MUMBAI: Big FM's Hyderabad station has commenced podcast of its shows. The year appears to have begun with radio stations keen to exploit the Net space. While Big FM had taken the lead in the space by beginning podcast of select shows from its Bangalore station late last year, the Bhaskar group's My FM followed last week by commencing podcast of all its stations. Big FM is the first in Hyderabad to offer podcast of its shows, says a release.

My FM appoints Arti Jaiswal as head of sales north and east

MUMBAI: Bhaskar Group's My FM has appointed Arti Jaiswal as head of sales for north and east regions. In her new role, Jaiswal will look after the FM station's media sales based out of New Delhi. Coming from Amar Ujala, where she was chief manager (north), Jaiswal brings with her over ten years of experience in media sales. She has worked with India's leading media publications like Dainik Bhaskar and Dainik Jagran. My FM is already operational in 15 cities in India. It will roll out two more stations to reach the target of 17 cities across the country.

Times Music banks on spiritual genre for Q1 '08

Mumbai: Times Music plans to continue banking on its forte - spiritual and devotional music - in the first quarter of 2008. The music label is coming up with a variety of catalogues in spiritual category, including a catalogue featuring Jagjit Singh singing devotional songs, and catalogues on Hindi scriptures (Picked up from the Vedas and Upanishads) with shlokas and hymns.

Radio City to stir and shuffle weekend content

Mumbai: Radio City plans to revamp its existing weekend programming line up across the Hindi speaking cities, where it operates. Seven new shows, on humour, romance, showbiz and Bollywood are being introduced. Three programmes on Saturday and four on Sunday have been planned. A weekly recap of top 20 songs, the Udham Singh Show in desi Haryanvi, a weekend special programme on behind the scene gossip, grapevine and glamour from the entertainment world and other programmes will be aired this weekend onwards.

Fremantlemedia announces intl musical talent hunt for The Brits 2008

MUMBAI: Television format creator and distributor Fremantlemedia which will distribute the music awards event show, The Brit Awards 2008 globally has announced the first wave of musicians who will perform. The European awards show takes place in London on 20 February 2008. Sir Paul McCartney, recipient of The Brit Awards 2008 award for Outstanding Contribution to Music, will be headlining the show with a performance. The show will also see performances from pop star Kylie Minogue and Rihanna along with British acts the Kaiser Chiefs, Mika and Mark Ronson.

Kalaignar TV launches Tamil music channel Isai Aruvi

BANGALORE: The war between Sun and Kalaignar TV just got hotter. Kalaignar TV's delayed music channel 'Isai Aruvi' – (Musical falls or flow) - has launched. The channel, which launched yesterday at 11am, was originally scheduled to launch last November 2007. The 'Isai Aruvi' logo is the same as that of Kalaignar TV with the addition of animated musical notes. Kalaignar TV has been carrying animated promos of Tollywood actors Rajnikanth and Ajith dancing together since the past few days.

T-Series, Vishesh Films lock horns on Jannat music rights

MUMBAI: A Mumbai city civil court has passed an interim relief order in favour of Vishesh Films (VS), directing Super Cassettes Industries Ltd (T-Series) not to claim the copyrights of audio/visuals of songs of its forthcoming film 'Jannat', set to release this year. The final order on the ongoing dispute between VF and T-Series regarding the music rights of Vishesh Films'under production flick 'Jannat'will be given on 25 January 2008.

My FM stakes presence in new media territory

MUMBAI: The Bhaskar Group's FM venture, My FM launched its online portal on 17 January 2008, complete with podcast of popular shows across its stations. The exponentially increase in Internet penetration in smaller cities where My FM is operational, is one of the main reasons for the group to make its online foray, say My FM officials. My FM becomes the second FM venture after Big FM, to start podcast of its shows on the Net.

Times Music launches Aditya Thackeray's 'Umeed'

MUMBAI: Times Music launched 'Umeed', lyricist Aditya Uddhav Thackeray's debut album, on 18 January in Mumbai. The album was unveiled by Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray and Amitabh Bachchan in a well attended affair. 17 year old Aditya, grandson of Bal Thacheray, is a student of the Dhirubhal Ambani International School. He impressed the audience with his thoughtful lyrics.

Rahman awarded NDTV Indian of the year

MUMBAI: NDTV's Indian of the Year for music honour has been bestowed on A R Rahman, at a function held on Thursday. Rahman, who was unable to attend the ceremony, sent a pre-recorded acceptance speech. The composer scored the music for Shekhar Kapoor's Elizabeth: The Golden Age in 2007, as well as composed the music for films including Mani Ratnam's Guru, Provoked and Sivaji-The Boss. He was also felicitated by the Limca Book of Records in 2007, as one of its eminent 'People of the Year'.

Sony's Bollywood Singstar sells 5000 units

MUMBAI:Sony Playstation's Bollywood Singstar, launched in November last year, has sold nearly 5000 units since launch. Sony, which brought in the hugely popular Singstar game to India has tied up with Sony BMG for content. The playlist currently comprises 30 popular songs. The Bollywood Singstar unit, priced at Rs 1500, also allows buyers to go in for additional bouquet of songs for Rs 500. Sony states that the game was created preempting the immense potential of the Bollywood franchise, not just in India but across the world.
