BBC launches two new shows for FM

MUMBAI: The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), that provides content to a clutch of private FM stations in India, is launching two new radio programmes, BBC- Take One and BBC Fun n Games this week. According to BBC's India Development Manager Vineeta Dwivedi, both shows are cast in the 'radio magazine' format, the first such in the country. Both shows will be made available to FM stations subscribing to its current content, according to the BBC.

Friends 91.9 FM gets audience to host new show

MUMBAI: The Kolkata radio station Friends 91.9 FM plans to give the people of Kolkata an opportunity to host their own show from the comfort of their homes. The show, titled 'Bari Theke Bolchi', goes on air from 14 January and will be aired from 10 pm to 11 pm on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The methodology is simple – call into a dedicated phone number, leave a 45 second message about yourself, and the station selects one person per day from those, and all he/she has to do is to host a one hour show sitting at home.

Radio Mirchi promotes CFL to conserve energy

MUMBAI: Radio Mirchi, in association with Karnataka Renewable Energy Development Ltd (KREDL), has undertaken an initiative to light up homes with compact fluorescent lamps (CFL), in Bangalore. With this initiative, Mirchi plans to create awareness among people to use CFLs that conserve energy as opposed to incandescent bulbs.

Shemaroo gifts Mahendra Kapoor 2 DVD pack on 74th birthday

MUMBAI: On the occasion of his 74th birthday, Shemaroo released a two DVD pack of 50 original songs by Mahendra Kapoor, featuring 25 solo songs in volume one and 25 duets in volume two sung by the legendary singer. The first copy of this DVD pack titled 'Ultimate Unremix - Mahendra Kapoor' was presented to Mahendra Kapoor on his birthday at his Mumbai residence on Wednesday. The singer officially released it by unveiling the pack, who was visibly moved as he launched the set. The DVD was then played on his home theatre system for guests to have a look at the compilation.

Motorola acquires Soundbuzz, plans Motomusic in India

MUMBAI: Motorola has acquired Soundbuzz, the privately held, leading pan-Asian music provider founded by Sudhanshu Sarronwala. The acquisition, which is subject to customary conditions, is expected to close in the first quarter of 2008. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed, says an official release.

Ovation TV acquires Universal music group's IMF

MUMBAI: Ovation TV, the arts TV network backed by Hubbard Media and Harvey and Bob Weinstein has acquired International Music Feed (IMF), a music video channel operated by Universal Music Group. The network will add IMF's 8 million monthly subscribers to its existing base of 17 million across Time Warner and Comcast cable systems, and DirecTV satellite service. IMF features concerts, interviews and music videos and was launched in 2005. Under terms of the deal, Universal Music Group gained a minority equity stake in Ovation.

Trai boost to FM: 700+ licenses in 260+ cities recommended

NEW DELHI: Much to the delight of the FM radio industry, the sector regulator Trai today recommended that more than 700 licenses be issued right across the country, with most of the more than 260 towns and cities being granted at least three - some even four - separate licenses. Trai today issued a consultation paper on the industry that it had predicted earlier, when chairperson Nripendra Mishra jad told indiantelevision.com in December last that Trai felt it is only good to open the sector across the country at one go, rather than in phases.

Big Music releases music of Al Risalah

MUMBAI: Big Music and Home Entertainment has released the audio of Al Risalah, the blockbuster movie on the times and teachings of the Prophet of Islam. Moustafa Akkad the director has wanted the story to be told in English, so that people all around the world can enjoy it. He felt he needed to pay a tribute to the Middle East, where it took place. The English and Arabic versions of the film were shot simultaneously, scene by scene. The English version was released as The Message, while the Arabic version became Al-Risalah.
