Buddhadeb and Rituparno Ghosh plan films & TV series on Tagore

NEW DELHI: To commemorate 150th birth anniversary of the Nobel laureate poet Rabindra Nath Tagore, renowned filmmakers Buddhadeb Das Gupta and Rituparno Ghosh have planned to make films and television series. While Dasgupta is producing 13 short films on 13 poems of Tagore, Ghosh will make a documentary titled �Home and the Word'. The films have been approved by the screening committee under the chairmanship of veteran writer-director Shyam Benegal, along with financial assistance from the Government.

Android smartphones attains global market share of 32%: report

MUMBAI: With a 280% increase in mobile global shipments in 2011, android smartphones have attained a global market share of 32% from 13% in 2010, according to the �Android Device Base Database by Vendor' report. The report points out that with the entry of Indian and Chinese vendors into the market, the race to lower android smartphone prices is gaining momentum, which in consequence has lead to the early emergence of mid-tier android devices.

BBC World Service receives ?90m grant from UK Govt

MUMBAI: BBC World Service broadcasts will receive a grant of ?90m from UK Government, less than a year after the body revealed cuts to jobs and services. Last year, foreign office moved the responsibility of funding the service to BBC, following which the corporation unveiled plans to close five of its 32 world language services and axe up to 650 jobs over three years.
