AIR gets under five MHz spectrum allocation for FM services

NEW DELHI: All India Radio, which has a spectrum of just 4.7 MHz exclusively reserved for its FM services will need more spectrum for setting up 385 new FM transmitters in the country under the 12th Plan. Information and Broadcasting Ministry sources told Radioandmusic.com that only 100 to 103.7 was presently reserved exclusively for FM broadcasting services by AIR. The broadcaster would need the additional spectrum for increasing the FM coverage to 90 per cent population.

Channel [V] shifts focus from music

MUMBAI: Channel [V], the music channel from the Star stable is all set to shift its focus by discontinuing all music slots in its programming from 1 July. With this transition, the channel will consolidate its position in the youth entertainment genre. Launched primarily as a music channel 16 years ago, the paradigm shift in programming from music to general entertainment shows began nearly three years ago. While the channel has already introduced a couple of fiction shows, the music content has dropped down to around three hours a day.

Gaana.com launches music streaming app on Windows tab

1981 historic concert of Muddy Waters and Rolling Stones now on DVD

MUMBAI: Documenting a historic November 1981 concert by members of Muddy Waters and The Rolling Stones, a two-disc concert DVD will be released on 10 July under the label Eagle Rock Entertainment. The DVD ‘Muddy Waters and The Rolling Stones: Live at the Checkerboard Lounge Chicago 1981’ will also be released as a DVD/2LP vinyl set. The historic concert took place when blues legend Muddy Waters was joined by most of the members of Rolling Stone, including Mick Jagger. The performance of Rolling Stones was a surprise during the concert which was fronted by Waters.

Jay Z, Rihanna, Elton John to perform at London Olympic Arts 2012 Festival

MUMBAI: A host of musical stars will perform at the London Olympic Arts 2012 Festival, a cultural celebration across Britain, which is being held from 21 June to 9 September. The fest will include BBC Radio 1 show which will feature free live music concert on 23-24June. The concert will include line-up of eminent artistes such as Jay-Z, Rihanna, Flo Rida, David Guetta, Jessie J, Lana del Rey, Leona Lewis, Tinie Tempah, Plan B, Florence and the Machine, Dappy and Jack White amongst others in its six stages.

AIR commercial revenues fall far below projections

NEW DELHI: As against a projection of Rs 3.5 billion, All India Radio earned a mere Rs 2.5387 billion through commercial means during 2011-12. While admitting that AIR had failed to meet its projected target in any of the years of the Eleventh plan, Prasar Bharati sources also told radioandmusic.com that the projection for 2012-13 had provisionally been kept at Rs 3.5 billion. AIR had earned Rs 2.5739 billion in 2010-11 against a projection of Rs 3.25 billion.
