Kylie goes Bollywood 'masala bhangra-pop' for Blue

MUMBAI: Now it can be told. Singer Kylie Minogue, who made a whirlwind tour to India last fortnight, has recorded a bhangra-pop number written by Abbas Tyrewala and composed by A R Rahman. Kylie, during her stay, recorded two songs for Blue - a duet with Sonu Niigaam and a dance number. The film's music scored has been done by none other than Academy award winner A R Rahman.

Thermal and a Quarter, Radio One vote for civic cause

MUMBAI: �Shut up and vote', an initiative to encourage the urban youth to vote by Tata tea and Bangalore based NGO Janaagrah plans to conduct a five city music tour across Chennai, Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore. Bangalore based urban Indian rock band Thermal and a Quarter have been roped in to convey the message.

Downloads now 33 p c of all US music sales-NPD survey

MUMBAI: More people are buying more digital music downloads in the United States, entertainment market research company NPD said on Tuesday. A new study released by NPD on Tuesday shows that the number of US Internet users paying for digital music increased to 36 million in2008, up more than eight million compared with a year ago. Purchases of online digital music downloads increased by 29 per cent since last year and now account for 33 per cent of all music tracks purchased in the United States, the study said.

Clear Channel radio to expand Internet radio availability

MUMBAI: Clear Channel Radio officials have said that the company's iheartradio application for the Apple iPhone has been downloaded more than one million times. The iheartradio application allows users to access streaming radio content over the Internet. Clear Channel Radio is programming all the music for this application. Users can access more than 150 of the company's top radio stations.

Nelly Furtado launches own label

MUMBAI: Nelly Furtado, Canadian pop star of Portuguese ancestry and one Grammy triumph, has launched her own music company, Nelstar Music. The Toronto-based electro-dance band Fritz Helder & the Phantoms is the first act signed to Nelstar and will release its debut album on July 7. "I've been thinking about a way to help Fritz Helder for a while and this venture grew out of my love for the band, their art and their work ethic," said Furtado, in a released statement. "I am as committed as they are to bringing their creativity to the world."

Americans prefer British music - survey

MUMBAI: One in three Americans agree that when it comes to popular music, the Brits hit the right notes. VisitBritain, the national tourist office for England, Scotland and Wales commissioned a recent survey conducted by Harris Interactive which found that one in three US adults listens to British music regularly, over any other non-US music artists.
