Film industry up in arms against Service Tax on Copyright

NEW DELHI: A core committee comprising senior members of the film industry, along with Members of Parliament, will meet Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee to voice their protest against the levy of service tax on copyright. The Film Federation of India FFI) , which will give detailed statistics stating the losses of the film industry and the meagre success rate, said that levy of service tax will sound the death knell of the Indian film industry and we will be forced to shut down the entire Indian film industry....

Prasar Bharati needs to fill up 3400 posts on priority basis

NEW DELHI: There has been no direct recruitment in the Group �A' cadres since Prasar Bharati was set up as an autonomous corporation in 1997. The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) refused to hold Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) meetings between 1997 and 2002 as the pubcaster was an autonomous body. A large number of pending court cases compounded the problem, apart from the fact that service rules did not exist for many of the posts.

EMI Records sues Irish Govt over anti-piracy order

MUMBAI: EMI Records has filed a lawsuit against the Irish government over handling its  anti-piracy laws. The record label has launched a legal action accusing the country's government of dragging its feet in introducing new laws to combat illegal file sharing.

Facebook launches music feature 'Listen With'

MUMBAI: Social networking site Facebook has announced the launch of a music feature �Listen With' that enables users to listen and share music with friends. The feature allows user to notify and discuss the tunes through Facebook app supporting Spotify, Rdio and Mog. Users also have privacy settings to control visibility when they are listening to a song with a Facebook friend.

Paul McCartney unveils the title of next studio album

MUMBAI: After month long speculation, legendary singer Paul McCartney has revealed the title and the track listing of his new studio album �Kisses on the Bottom' set to release in February 2012. The album comprises of 14 tracks including two original McCartney compositions �My Valentine' and �Only Our Hearts' featuring feature renowned artistes Eric Clapton and Stevie Wonder. It also includes guest musicians like Grammy Award-winning producer Tommy LiPuma and Diana Krall & band.

Adele, Jessie J lead 'Brit Awards 2012' nominations

MUMBAI: Songstress Adele and Jessie J have topped the nomination list of 2012 Brit Awards with three nods each. The two British pop-stars will compete for the coveted titles of British Female Solo Artist and British Single. Adele has also been chosen for British Album of the Year and will compete against Coldplay, Ed Sheeran, PJ Harvey and Florence. RIM announces 7.1 OS feat. FM radio

MUMBAI: BlackBerry parent company RIM (Research in Motion) has announced its new operating system 7.1 OS featuring FM radio for Curve model 9360 and 9380. The new operating system was launched at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. The existing Curve 9360 and 9380 users can also update their operating system to 7.1OS. The new software activates FM chip, and includes new app allowing users to tune in to local FM stations.

2012 Golden Globe Awards theme song to be composed by Yoshiki

MUMBAI: The 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards has roped in Japanese music superstar Yoshiki to compose theme song for the first time. The announcement was made by Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) president Dr Aida Takia-O'Reilly and Dick Clark productions EVP, Television Barry Adelman.
