Rs 5 cr spent on marketing Fever Ramayan: Keerthivasan

For over a month now, Fever FM has been promoting its show Ramayan with teasers, voice hunt contests and snippets. While the actual episodes of Ramayan are only into their second week and the RAM data for all of Week 1 and 2 of the episode (i.e. Week 41 and 42, 2010) is awaited, RnM spoke with S Keerthivasan, Business Head – Radio and Events, HT Media Ltd., to find out the marketing plans and their performance so far. Britannia uses BIG FM contest for 'Time Pass' song words

BANGALORE: As a part of its campaign for promoting its newly launched product line �Time Pass' in Bangalore, Britannia Industries Limited (Britannia) has roped in Kannada music director and singer Gurukiran to compose an �Ultimate Time Pass Track'. Bangalore youth contributed to Gurukiran's track through a contest on Big FM Bangalore, which saw over 25,0000 words defining �Time Pass'. Those who contributed the catchiest words were awarded a cash prize and their contributory words were used in the songs.

Mobile operators should partner with music streaming services: study

MUMBAI: According to a new study by Informa Telecoms & Media, mobile operators should quit pushing their own music download stores on users and instead partner with music streaming services to increase revenues and build customer loyalty. The study reports that a typical Western European carrier with around 20 million customers could see revenue rise to $109 million per year from new users. Revenue saved due to a decline in churn would also contribute to that figure, said the research.

BBC brings high definition sound for radio

MUMBAI: BBC has announced to make available its classical music channel Radio 3 in an extra high-quality audio stream." As reported by media, It will be BBC's first radio station to be offered in high definition sound. The high quality sound will be available for special live events, starting with Electric Proms on the Radio 2 website this month, and for all Radio 3 output from December. BBC audio and music director Tim Davie said it was "a signal of our commitment to innovate in digital radio".

Copyright Act 2010 needs balance: ICRS

MUMBAI: At a seminar and panel discussion for amendments to be made in the Copyright Act 2010, Supreme Court Judge Dalveer Bhandary has called for unauthorized use of original works to be stopped, while Shekhar Menon, President ICRS, wants the amendment bill to be not only less Bollywood-centric, but also more balanced in terms of equal rights or share to authors and stakeholders.

P K Garg to represent Asia on ITU Radio board

NEW DELHI: The former Wireless Adviser to the Government, P K Garg, has been elected to represent Asia on the Radio Regulations Board of the International Telecommunication Union. The other two members elected are Yasuhiko Ito from Japan, who took 120 votes and Ali R. Ebadi from Malaysia (93 votes). Garg received 78 votes. Members are elected to represent Region E, Asia, and Australasia.

Govt aims to align Indian Copyright Laws with global standards

NEW DELHI: The Copyright Amendment Bill 2010, awaiting passage by the Rajya Sabha, seeks to bring India's copyright laws in line with international standards in internet and digital technology and provides for stringent punishment for violation, Human Resource Development Ministry Joint Secretary Amit Khare said.
