Lisa credits Hannah Montana for inspiring her journey from BLACKPINK to solo stardom

MUMBAI: Lisa recently opened up about the track that marked her debut as a member of Blackpink and her evolution into a solo artist. In a playful Q&A with The Guardian, she credited none other than Miley Cyrus’ iconic character, Hannah Montana, for igniting her musical passion. When asked which song changed her life, Lisa recalled, “I auditioned for Blackpink in Thailand by singing ‘Ice Cream Freeze (Let’s Chill)’ by Hannah Montana, so Miley Cyrus.” Reflecting on the experience, she added, “There must have been 1,000 people, so I never thought I would get picked. It’s a fun song and good to dance to, so I think it really suited my style.”

Lisa also reminisced about her early musical memories, revealing that she knew every word to Justin Bieber and Ludacris’ 2010 hit “Baby.” She recalled feeling too shy to express her admiration when she met Bieber a few years ago. However, she did share a special moment with Rihanna, praising the Anti icon’s track “Work” as the perfect party anthem.

Apart from her music journey, Lisa recently made headlines for joining the cast of the third season of White Lotus and her memorable appearance on Hot Ones, where she bravely tackled the wing-eating challenge. During the show, she discussed her new album, Alter-Ego, which features five distinct characters representing different facets of her personality.

In a Rolling Stone review of Alter-Ego, writer Maura Johnston commended Lisa for her “sturdy, yet winsome singing” and noted that her versatility is a major strength. According to Johnston, the album serves as an exciting first step toward carving out her solo career path.
