MUMBAI: The Indian Recording Arts Academy (IRAA) awards which has gained aspirational value through the years, reflects the industry’s credibility and has become an eagerly looked forward to the annual event. Now in its 10th year, the awards received a tremendous response, with hundreds of entries pouring in, ever since the first “Call for Nomination” on 19th February 2016.
Soundtracks and albums released between 1 January 2015 and 31 December 2015 were eligible for nomination. The nominations were received for categories such as Music Producer of The Year – Film & Non-Film; Record Label of the Year; Background Score; Sound Design; Debut Recording / Mixing Engineer of The Year; Live Sound Mixing Engineer of The Year; Music Video of the Year - Film & Non-Film & Audio Education Award, to name a few. Audio files accompanying the entries were uploaded to a Dropbox link provided on the website.
The entries are now being screened by the IRAA Awards Jury Members, who are all involved creatively and/or technically in the recording industry. The jury will determine which of the nominees are worthy of being named the finalists.
Joining the IRAA committee as Awards Director this year is Achille Forler,who has over three decades of experience in the creative industries and has been a powerful champion of rights for music content creators for more than 15 years.
“10 years is a long time and we must praise Anil Chopra and his team for having fought so hard to keep these Awards going. But 10 is the beginning of adolescence so there will be changes and hopefully a maturing so that these Awards gain the public recognition they deserve,” says Mr. Forler.
