MUMBAI: BBC Music has released the names of artists and performances that have been shortlisted for the upcoming BBC Awards in several categories, including British Artist of the Year, International Artist of the Year and BBC Live Performance of the Year.

In the category of British Artist of the year, chart topper Adele will be competing against Ed Sheeran, Jamie XX, Florence + the Machine, Foals and Years & Years.

Meanwhile, Foo Fighters, Hozier, Major Lazer, Prince, Taylor Swift and The Weeknd have all been pitted against each other in the International Artist of the Year category.

BBC Music will also be selecting a winner for the best BBC Live Performance of the Year. The category includes Adele at the BBC, BBC One Special; Florence + The Machine, Glastonbury; Jeff Lynne’s ELO, Radio 2 In Concert; Lionel Richie, Glastonbury; Late Night with… BBC Radio 1 at the BBC Proms, BBC Proms; and Late Night with… BBC Radio 1Xtra at the BBC Proms, BBC Proms.

The upcoming edition of the BBC Music Awards is its second edition, and will be hosted by Chris Evans and Fearne Cotton. The winners will be declared at the award show, which is set to be held at Genting Arena, Birmingham on Thursday, 10 December 2015. The awards will be broadcasted on BBC One and Radio 2 on the same night from 8 to 10 pm.

BBC Music has also revealed the line-up of artists that will be performing at the awards. The list includes Ellie Goulding, Faithless, Hozier, James Bay, Jess Glynne, Little Mix, Mumford & Sons, OMI, One Direction, Paul Heaton and Jacqui Abbott, Rod Stewart and The Shires plus BBC Introducing Artist of the Year- Jack Garratt.

BBC Radio 2, 6 Music, Asian Network and Director of BBC Music controller Bob Shennan said, “What a year it’s been for music. Our shortlists represent the artists who have created some of the biggest and most impactful music moments of the year. I’m looking forward to the big unveiling in Birmingham next week.”

There will be five awards which will be announced at the event. They will include British Artist of the Year and International Artist of the Year, as decided by the BBC Music panel; Song of the Year voted for by members of the public, and a special award for a BBC Introducing Artist.

BBC Live Performance of the Year is a new award that has been introduced, and will be presented to a band or artist that has delivered the stand out BBC Music live moment of 2015, also voted by the BBC Music panel. The voting for Song of the Year will take place on Wednesday, 9 December.

The BBC Music Awards will take place on Thursday, 10 December between 4 and 6 pm. Tickets are priced between £39 and £53 and are available on BBC Music’s website.
