New Delhi: An All India Radio FM transmitter has been mounted in Fazilka, Punjab, to exclusively carry AIR Urdu service for both sides of the border area. The 20kW FM transmitter was inaugurated by minister of state for social justice and empowerment Vijay Sampla. The services through this transmitter will be available on 100.8MHz.
The FM transmitter is equipped with 16-Panel FM antenna that is mounted on the 300m high Doordarshan tower. It has a 125 KVA DG Set, UPS, C-Band satellite receive terminal and DTH facility.
Transmission in this area will be controlled by AIR Bhatinda. The transmitter is likely to cater broadcast up to an 80 km radius and will thus penetrate 68 Km inside Pakistan along the Indo-Pak border area in the vicinity of Fazilka.
The overall coverage area of this transmitter is about 20,300 sq km and caters to a population of 32 lakh on the Indian and an expected 36 lakh population across the border.
