MUMBAI: Mehboob Studio once again prepares to host some of the most guitar-ripping, soul-tripping Blues musicians from around the world, as Mahindra Blues Festival opens its sixth edition on 13 February. For five years, Mahindra Blues has not only successfully managed to keep the Blues alive, but certainly helped it grow. Last year, Mumbai witnessed one of the greatest Blues musician - Buddy Guy - enthrall the fortunate ones present at the Main Stage. With Keb Mo, Joss Stone and India's finest Blues act Soulmate as this year's line-up, MBF continues its tradition of maintaining the reputation of Asia's largest and finest blues phenomenon.
Here are the tracks that could possibly echo between the walls of the iconic studio this weekend -
Day 1
Keb Mo - Soon As I Get Paid
One of the most laidback Blues compositions, 'Soon As I Get Paid' usually makes into the three-time Grammy winner- Keb Mo's setlist. The post-modern Blues legend would perform for the first time at the festival, and naturally, he would not want to miss on the sheer reaction of the fans grooving to the track.
Heritage Blues Orchestra - St. James Infirmary Blues
If you are looking for a proper combination of deep vocals and soulful blues-y piano, the 'St. James Infirmary Blues' could rightly be your thing. The band often performs the track between the setlist, and one can understand why. Bill Sims Jr. provides an intro through the magic of keys, followed by the equally magical vocals from Chaney Sims, and what follows is a 7-minute long performance that could traverse you into some place magical.
Day 2
Joss Stone - I Put A Spell On You
With over 12 million albums sold worldwide, Joss Stone has definitely established herself as one of the finest songwriters in the world of Blues and R&B. However, Stone's live performances are a treat, if you love some 'soul'. The single 'I Put A Spell On You' won the Grammy for 'Best Rock Performance by a Duo', however, Stone continues to mesmerise with her vocals, although minus Jeff Beck.
Malina Moye - Hustler's Blue
With her 2014 release album 'Rock & Roll Baby', American singer-songwriter Malina Moye pushed the fusion of rock, blues, jazz and funk to a whole new level. One of the tracks off the album 'Hustler's Blue' makes into Moye's regular live setlists and the fans travelling from the different cities surely cannot wait for this lefty guitarist to showcase her stage presence.
