Sona Mohapatra to release next-album previews on Women's Day
* Sneak preview of two tracks, Shyam Pia and Mharo Pranam on YouTube
MUMBAI: On Women's Day, popular singer Sona Mohapatra will release two videos on YouTube as a sneak preview of her forthcoming album. The two videos, Shyam Pia a original composition of a modern Blues song with the traditional Mira lyrics and the second video Mharo Pranam – an interpretation of Meera Bai's bhajan popularized by the great Kishori Amonkar.The videos will be in spotlight across the world and also includes a segment of her performance in front of Mehrangarh Fort in Jodhpur.
Mohapatra told RadioAndMusic.com, Considering that Mharo Pranam is a bhajan by the great Meera Bai, and I particularly like it because it celebrates the free and liberating spirit of Meera Bai, I decided to preview the bhajan on Women's Day – after all, who Meera Bai has always symbolized the best qualities of womanhood in India, and has been an icon for women through the ages....
On why she chose YouTube for her sneak previews, Mohapatra said, YouTube will allow me to to engage audiences all over the world with my music. Those viewers who are really interested in my music will be able to experience my work through YouTube, which is a channel that gives you choice; viewers would watch my work only because they are interested and not because they don't have any other choice....
On her upcoming album, Mohapatra said, Apart from Shyam Pia and Mharo Pranam, which you can experience in part on YouTube on Tuesday, the 8th of March, my next album has a song in which I'm doing a modern interpretation of another ancient verse This album consists of some traditional matter from my band, along with Meera Bai's work. Through this album I want to illustrate the versatility of Meera's poetry and the fact that she was not confined to bhajans alone. For me, Meera Bai is a true rock star and my album depicts her free and liberating spirit....
Recently, on her music label Om-Grown Music, Mohapatra released the full track of Paas Aao Na as a single across several countries including those in South East Asia, Latin America, Africa and the Middle East. Paas Aao Na became popular before its release through the Close Up advertising campaign.
