MUMBAI: Avid radio listeners in Mumbai today woke up to be surprised with the unavailability of their favourite radio stations. None of the private FMs were available for more than an hour in Mumbai from around 11 am and some still continue to be off air.
Sources say the problem can be traced to infrastructure problems at All India Radio’s tower at Worli, Mumbai. Transmitters of private FM stations are located at Worli and share AIR's infrastructure. This is the first time that such a problem has occurred, causing disruptions of transmission services for nearly two hours today. All India Radio's FM channels Gold and Rainbow were however working as was AIR FM's Vividh Bharati station.
A radio station CEO told Radioandmusic.com, "Due to technical issues regarding the transmission, all private FMs have stopped airing since morning. The issue had never happened before. The issue will be resolved before 1 pm or so."
Most of the radio stations went on to tweet about the same on their twitter handle for their listeners. Have a look at the tweets.
