MUMBAI: 2016 would go down as the year where the music of the yesteryear was celebrated across domains. Bollywood composers, radio channels, record labels and streaming services have launched initiatives where the music from the bygone eras have found renditions through mash-ups or reached a larger audience through dedicated programming.
One of the oldest record labels in the country Saregama extends the current trend on its platform through a weekend podcast revolving around the evergreen melodies. Hosted by RJ Gaurav Srivastava, the hour long show will comprise songs from the 60s to the 90s, featuring legendary voices of Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar, Mohammad Rafi and many more. Simply titled ‘Weekend Classics’, the show will travel beyond music to cover the era, through inside stories and anecdotes related to the stars and their movies.
Saregama’s latest initiative will be available on services like YouTube and iTunes. Also, podcast apps such as Stitcher, Pocket Casts, Podcast Republic, Podbean would host ‘Weekend Classics’ too.
