Radio City 91.1 FM observes 'World Tobacco Day'

MUMBAI: Offering vital insight on wellness interwoven true to its Whatte Fun style, Radio City 91.1 FM observed 'World Tobacco Day' on May 31, 2008. The special programming line up across Radio City's FM stations included the airing of specially packaged informative promos and special capsules along with on-air contests testing the listener's health-quotient. In addition to airing comments from medical experts and prominent personalities, the stations' RJs went among listeners for awareness building and captured the city sentiment through LIVE broadcasts.

Jaipur's Radio City 91.1FM conducted a special program called 'Bas Ek Kash Aur' for listeners across Jaipur city. As part of this exercise, RJ Deep (Whatte Fun Mornings) and the Radio City 91.1FM team went out among the people at venues like MI Road, Ajmeri Gate known to be frequented by smokers. The Radio City Team gathered all smokers while RJ Deep interacted with him, taking them LIVE on-air. RJ Deep kept the audiences and on-lookers enthralled with numerous games and other fun-filled activities revolving around the awareness of the harmful effects of smoking and tobacco consumption. Radio City adopted a light hearted approach to educate the people while driving home the message that 'Smoking is injurious to health' in a light, 'Whatte Fun' manner.Lucknow Radio City 91.1FM's efforts to raise awareness towards eradicating tobacco addiction with the 'Say No to Tobacco with Radio City' campaign did not go unnoticed. The four day long drive leading to World Tobacco Day on May 31st, 2008 was in partnership with the Masiha Cancer Foundation of India and Fun Republic. Radio City's RJ Meenu (Joyride) and RJ Gaurav (Whatte Fun Weekends) created a stir in the City of Nawabs with complete edutainment via on air contests and on grounds events offering startling insight on the issue in a fun, light manner. The FM station aired a three day contest, the winners of which were felicitated at the mall on May 31. Helping listeners say no to tobacco, Radio City got listeners one year's free counseling by Masiha Cancer Foundation of India. Gracing the occasion was Dr. Rajendra Prasad, Head of Department (Medical University) along with RJ Meenu (City Joyride) and RJ Gaurav (Whatte Fun Weekends) who conducted fun contests spreading awareness about tobacco hazards.

Delhi's Radio City 91.1FM observed 'World Tobacco Day' through 'Butt tere ki' - A Radio City Cares initiative. The FM station created a special featurette based on the premise of giving up tobacco addition. The Radio City team featured bytes from Radio Cityzens across Delhi. RJ Varun (Joyride) went among listeners championing this cause at Pacific Mall on May 31, where among interactive contests, shared tips on how best to cut down this addiction.

Commenting on these activities, Mr. Rana Barua, National Head - Programming and Marketing, Radio City 91.1 FM said, "Our initiatives for World Tobacco Day are an attempt to reach out and educate our listeners on the consequences of tobacco addiction. So be it counselling, spreading the word through our RJs or demonstrating the effects of smoking through stamina tests, the idea was to drive the message home by implementing a lighter approach in a manner which the people can relate to. Listener response and participation to our various campaigns for World Tobacco Day have shown that Radio City been greatly successful in this endeavour."
