Radio City partners with TNT and UNO for Bangalore Walkathon
MUMBAI: Building on its 'Total Bengaluru' mantra, Bengalurina Radio City 91.1FM presented a unique initiative in Bangalore city in support of a global cause. Radio City partnered 'Walk the World' a fund-raising Walkathon organized by United Nations Organization and TNT on Sunday, June 1, 2008. Aimed at ending child hunger by 2015, the Walkathon from Richmond Road to Cubbon Park, saw almost 2000 Bangaloreans converging to support the cause at Radio City's call. Joining RJ Kiran and Varsha (Whatte Fun Mornings), RJ Vinayak (Joyride) and RJ Mamtha (Retro Caf©) were none other than celebrated cricket commentator Charu Sharma, actor Akul from Aathmeya and renowned cricketer Sunil Joshi who contributed their bit by participating in this drive.
Celebrating Bangalore and everything Bangalorean, Radio City 91.1FM was the Official Radio Partners to this Walkathon. In support of the cause, the city's 'Total Bengaluru' FM station actively promoted the activity on-air to drive participation from Bangaloreans. For each participant who joined in, the UNO was presented with INR 1000 towards their World Food Programme (WFP) to end child hunger. The streets of Bangalore were abuzz with much fanfare as on-lookers also joined in the walk to support the cause adding in a Whatte Fun quotient.Commenting on the initiative Mr. Rana Barua, National Head - Programming and Marketing, Radio City 91.1FM said, "Bangalore and Radio City 91.1FM go back a long way. We launched our very first FM station here almost 7 years ago and our bond with this city only gets stronger with each passing year! Through our association with this Walkathon, we provided Bangaloreans a platform to contribute towards a global cause. Thanks to the vivacity and enthusiasm of Bangalore's Radio Cityzens, this initiative has been a great success. We look forward to presenting more such interactive platforms which allow Bangalore to come together in all its diversity!"
