India Music Network presents upcoming singing sensation Uddipan Sarmah
MUMBAI: Uddipan Sarmah is the latest sensation to be causing ripples in the Indian music scene. Blessed with a surreal voice and a talented guitarist, Uddipan is a truly versatile artist, and one will without doubt find it hard to put a finger on any single genre that Uddipan can be classified under.
Although he has never been formally trained, music has always been an essential part of Uddipan’s life right since childhood. Born and brought up in Sibsagar, Assam, he later, shifted to Bangalore to complete his graduation in electrical engineering. It was around this time that he started taking music seriously and composed his first original melody 'Burn' in 2006.
This powerhouse of talent lends his voice while strumming a guitar to the India Music Network with his first ever original Hindi composition 'Zindagi'.
His first college band, Overblack, a metalcore band, won a good number of shows in Bangalore and other parts of India.
He said, "My music is all about life and the difficulties we face along the way.”
Although he feels that he will experiment with different genres of music for many years to come, he feels that the current shape his music has taken most resembles rock with a Hindustani influence. Sarmah has always been open for experimenting and bringing out new sound. Metal, Rock, Grunge, Alternative, Screamo, Psychedelic, Melodic, doom are few of his favourites.
Being from Assam, it was a considerable challenge for him to start singing in Hindi. His current Hindi releases were all written secretly after jam sessions with his band over a period of five years. However, staying true to his Assam roots, Sarmah also hopes to release some Assamese songs in the future.
He has always been open for experimenting and bringing out new sound. His latest project 'Zindagi' is his first attempt at composition in the Hindi language.
