Daler's South Indian Rendezvous
MUMBAI: Daler Mehndi - the pioneer of Indipop has redefined himself time and again. His music has catapulted success beyond the limitations of genres, languages and geography. Touted as the King of Bhangra and now also the King of Sufi music, Mehndi’s versatility and pan-genre music has made the world dance. His sufi persona is reflected through his Soul to Supreme series where he showcases his classical prowess and spiritual nature.
What began with his Pop debut - Bolo Ta Ra Ra creating History by selling two lakh units in non-punjabi speaking Kerala, continues to win millions of hearts across the world in varied languages and as intricate as Tamil and Telugu. The singer, song writer and composer has simultaneously invented a new string instrument called Swar Mandir and given the music world a new genre “Rababi”.
Mehndi made his debut in South Indian films with ‘Rubber Gaajulu’ for ‘Yamadonga’ in 2007 which went multiplatinum. After the super success of Daler’s track in Yamadonga, G.V.Prakash managed to rope in the Punjabi singer for Kuselan, which was filmed on the veteran superstar Mr. Rajinikanth. The track was superceded the sales of its predecessors. Although Mehndi is the most expensive play back singer of the country, the South film industry considers him an investment made well.
‘Brand Daler’ in South India is considered much more convincing than other Tamil & Telugu singers as no other singer can match his energy and voice’s charisma. The ace director Srinu Vaitla recently roped in Mehndi for NTR Jr. starrer Baadshah. Daler, who has been occupied with his latest project Mission Love, agreed to record the Telugu number despite his busy schedule. He flew especially to Hyderabad to croon the track and was greeted with overwhelming response by the film director Srinu Vaitla. The song in power-pitched voice of Daler was recorded in an hour and is a track to watch out for!
The action movie is produced by Bandla Ganesh under his Parameshwara Art Productions banner Thaman is scoring music for this mega project and lyrics are by Ramayogi Sasthry. The movie is scheduled to release in the summer of 2013.
Daler the man with a three-prong strategy behind his music - one that of entertaining the world, second that of propagating, spreading happiness, harmony, peace and third that of environmental awareness, is busy expanding his DM MISSION LOVE wherein the 200,000 adherents practice the LOVE YOU chant daily. The philanthropic musician chats with his fans vide facebook through DM MISSION LOVE.
In his own words, “I feel like a nomad blessed with the Gift of Music on a journey that leads to the evergreen and everlasting pastures of Happiness and Harmony with the Supreme , on the Path (Rah) of a Dervish (Darvesh) … a Rahe Darvesh.”
