Radio Mango - Idea 'Decibel - Battle Of the Bands' announces winner
MUMBAI: Radio mango concluded its Rock Music Contest Decibel at Durbar Hall Grounds on 24 March.
Over a month of preliminary rounds, the state saw hundreds of bands battling it out to be Kerala's number one Rock Band. In the end only three remained – Icons, Black Letters and Rockozaurus.
At stake was over 2 lakhs in Cash Prizes, the promo song to Amal Neerad's new film, and the chance for all three to cut the original album – Decibel, produced by Manorama Music. After two hours of enthralling an audience of over 20,000 on the sprawling lawns of the Durbar Hall, Black Letters prevailed to take first prize, with second being shared by Icons and Rockozaurus in a surprise decision by star judges, music directors Rahul Raj and Alphonse and superstar keyboardist Stephen Devassy.
And then the stage was thrown open for the final act – a two hour high octane rock show by Kerala's own internationally famous rock band, Avial – the pioneers of malayalam folk rock. The show ended in true god's own country style, as the skies opened up with torrential rain, seconds after the curtains came down. Radio Mango Decibel was in partnership with Idea Cellular and plans are already in the making for Decibel 2.
