Social music syncing app Speakerfy launches for iOS devices

MUMBAI: Speakerfy, the first social sound app that allows people in proximity to listen to the same song, at the same time, on multiple devices, is now available for iOS users in the Apple App Store. Created by Utah-based startup Optini, Speakerfy is a free, cross platform, multi-device app that can turn any song into a social sound experience.

Optini founder and president John Wright said, “Music started out as a social experience and for a while, technology helped make that experience more social. Inventions of the record player and radios brought people together to listen to music, satisfying our human desire to connect to the people around us. However, over time, headphones, Walkmans and iPods turned music into a personal experience, inadvertently disconnecting people from one another. Our goal is to bring people back together through music and we’re leveraging the devices consumers have today to do just that.”

Speakerfy is easy to use and has various use-cases for consumers. Once the app is opened, it automatically searches for available devices nearby that are also using the app on a network. The music can be played with the devices themselves, with headphones or with speakers. The syncing occurs when the app is running and the user has accepted a request to play a song. Here are a few examples of how people can use Speakerfy:

Social sound: Speakerfy gives people close to each other with a way to listen to perfectly synced sound. Ideal situations for using Speakerfy include picnics, indoor and outdoor parties and get-togethers with friends at a park or beach. Speakerfy can also be used with headphones for silent discos, exercise partners, or anyone who wants to be in sync even with headphones on.

Car stereo: Once a concert is done, Speakerfy is able to continue the experience with friends at a venue in separate cars through the multiple car stereo systems by plugging in a user’s smartphone.

Room amplification: Since speakers are not always available, people are able to set up different mobile devices across any room and use Speakerfy to produce a perfectly synced surround sound room experience. Alternatively, devices can be plugged into different portable speakers to make the room even louder.

Available soon on Android- and Windows-based devices, Speakerfy transforms any ultrabook, tablet or smartphone into a speaker that syncs perfectly with multiple devices using the same WiFi or hotspot network. It supports many tablets and smartphones at once.
