Adele tops young musician rich list

MUMBAI: 24-year-old Rolling in the Deep singer Adele has been named as the wealthiest young musician in Britain with an estimated fortune of ?30 mn, according to the Sunday Times Rich List.

Skyfall singer who will turn 25 next month has topped the list of music millionaires under 30 for a second consecutive year. In 2012, she had estimated fortune of 20 mn which had increased by 50 per cent according to the latest figures. In spite her extended break to recover from her throat operation and birth of her son, she remains on top as her album continues to sell and also because of the success of her Oscar-winning James Bond theme tune.

Cheryl Cole is in second place with 14 mn, while former X Factor winner Leona Lewis and singer-songwriter Katie Melua - both have a wealth of 12 million pounds each. Florence Welch from Florence and the Machine came in fifth, with an estimated ?9 million fortune.

Jessie J and Charlotte Church, who have fortune of 8 million pounds while JLS singers Marvin Humes, Aston Merrygold, JB Gill and Oritse Williams, who have a fortune of 6 million pounds each.

New entries to the list of young music millionaires include Emeli Sandé and Ed Sheeran, are worth ?5 million each.

Sir Paul McCartney topped the list of the wealthiest musicians in Britain along with his wife Nancy Shevell. The top five wealthiest musicians in Britain remain unchanged from the 2012 list, with McCartney followed by Andrew Lloyd-Webber (?620m), U2 (?520m), Sir Elton John (?240m) and David and Victoria Beckham (?200m).
