MUMBAI: Punjabi playback singer and pop star Diljit Singh Dosanjh has come a long way from being one of the most popular singers and playback artists from contemporary Punjabi music to taking up roles in films. He has managed to mesmerize legions of boisterous Punjabi youths with his music, later captivating them with his acting skills in a slew of films like ‘Jatt and Juliet’, ‘Jihne Mera Dil Luteya’ and ‘Jatt and Juliet 2’.

Despite making his mark on the silver screen and having a handful of acting assignments, Dosanjh’s desire is to continuing releasing singles or albums for his fans- at regular intervals; and he has been delivering it till date.

He also sings around four-five tracks for the films he acts in. He balances both his responsibilities with ease.

“Last year my album was out. After that it has been almost a year, now I came up with my single ‘Proper Patola’ ft. Badshah. I have been busy shooting and promoting films due to which I could not give enough time to music. It was high time and I thought I should work on my single. I don’t want to lose touch. I am a singer and I wish to make music. I am getting many offers in films, but that does not mean I lose touch from singing,” said Dosanjh during a conversation with Radioandmusic.com.

His latest offering Proper Patola was composed by Badshah and Sachh and was released on 8 August under Sony Music.

“After every two years, I try my best to launch an album. I already have my music fans and I don’t want to lose them so I try my best to give out a single every three months. It is my way of thanking my fans and informing them that I have not stopped singing,”he added. His last album ‘Sikh 2’ was released under Dharam Seva Records and Speed Records.

“Last time, I rendered a single that was very basic. Now, I have rendered a single that has an international touch. The video, directed by Gifty, is interesting. So are the lyrics, penned by Badshah and the video has been made keeping in mind international standards.”

Dosanjh might be on a roll but he never forgets his fans and always remembers them with a sense of gratitude. “All my fans around the world congratulate me and give me feedback on every single track that I render. There are audiences who don’t understand Punjabi but they love hearing me sing. My latest single, with simple Punjabi lyrics, is for them. My fan base was initially through music. Films have increased my fanbase. My old fans are like my friends and I would never want to lose them,” said Dosanjh.

Speaking about the newcomers in the industry, Dosanjh said, “New artistes are so learned and are more aware about the industry. Singers like me, when we came into the industry, we were not aware of what was happening. The new artistes are more aware about their looks and ways to promote themselves. Internet plays an important role for artistes today. And the newcomers know how to promote themselves through this platform.”

When asked if he had any advice for the newcomers, he replied saying that new artistes are aware about things and they do not need to taught or adviced.”

“Around the world, Punjabi music is appreciated and respected. I feel immense pleasure when people enjoy Punjabi music. I hope that the trend continues with new artistes as well,” concluded Dosanjh.
