Tashan
Music Director - Vishal-Shekhar
Director - Vijay Krishna Acharya
Producer - Aditya Chopra
True to its title, the music is with 'tashan' (style)!
Popular duo Vishal-Shekhar who have been spinning out hit albums at regular frequency of late, seem set to create a new record with Tashan. The movie's theme is very well threaded in its music. What sets it apart from the other bets is its unique lyrics.
Of late, Sukhwinder Singh has ended up sounding very repetitive. But he croons Dil Haara with a difference, thanks to the variations in the music. It has the banjara effect with great guitar play in the background. And one can't ignore the 'shout sounds' in between the track. Piyush Mishra's very-Indian lyrics add value to the song. Nearing the end, the music switches lanes and dons a new avatar, which increases the pace.
Chhaliya is not one of their best compositions. Sung by Sunidhi Chauhan, it sounds rather familiar. Piyush Mishra's bits and pieces spruce up the monotonous sounding track. Anvita Dutt Guptan's wordings sound neat, however, the Hinglish-ness makes it just-another-song.
Only Vishal Dadlani could think of such funky lyrics! Dil Dance Maare is an absolute fun song, courtesy: lyrics! Sukhwinder Singh, Udit Narayan and Sunidhi Chauhan sound completely different with this track. The English words are very intelligently interwoven within the predominately Hindi song. And the music complements every inch of the lyrics. 'Tumhri dil ka theatre ma, dil deewani booking advance maange re' is just an instance of this loud, gaudy and in-your face track. One can't afford to miss this one!
'Falak tak' rendered by Udit Narayan and Mahalakshmi Iyer is a feel-good song. It is one those typical love songs, very dreamy and lovey-dovey. Music is no exception in this case and lyrics too are very predictable. One hears an assortment of instruments in the background. It's Mahalakshmi's melodious voice and Vishal-Shekhar's good music in bits and pieces that save this track from monotony.
It's got the style! Tashan's title track 'Tashan Mein' is one voguish song. The lyrics are simply superb. It's Vishal and Mishra at work, after all! But this time, the credit goes to the voices and beats. Vocalisation by Dadlani himself and Saleem is guaranteed to bowl you over. While Vishal's voice is thick and stern, Saleem's is musical in its own way. Post Heyy Babyy's Mast Kalandar, everyone wants to hear more of Saleem. This one is a class apart.
Tashan has the needed spark. If the songs sound this good without the visuals, the latter will only be an add on. Vishal and Shekhar pace a step higher with every album. The glam quotient is in its music also, not only in the film.
