Lyrics play an important role in Mahabharat's title track
MUMBAI: "This is a story of a war for the betterment of the world"… apt lyrics for the title track of the new mega- serial 'Mahabharat' composed and written by Gogavale brothers- Ajay-Atul. The musically gifted siblings, whose claim to fame was directing the music of 'Agneepath', and who have no shortage of movie projects from big banners like Dharma Productions, nevertheless took their time out to contribute to the much hyped serial.
“The team of Mahabharat approached us with a presentation that one could not reject. We have seen the old Mahabharat which had poor sets, costumes and lacking in various other technical aspects. This is common in all major Indian television drama. But the 2013 Mahabharat is an attempt to do something new so why not be part of the change,” Atul revealed to Radioandmusic.com.
The brothers also appreciated the fact that the new Mahabharat was pretty much in-sync with latest technology in the audio department. The sound- including their title track- will be delivered via Dolby 5:1 platform.
After a month and a half of creative labour, Ajay-Atul came up with a piece that incorporated conventional music styles and sound for the tradition- laden series of Mahabharat. Due diligence was given to both the music and lyrics of the track in order to ‘match the spirit of Mahabharat'. The end result was a track that gelled seamlessly with the backdrop and content.
However, Atul quickly pointed out that unlike slickly produced American television dramas like 'Lost' and ' 'Transporter' which are created with huge budgets, one must not expect the same gloss from Indian serials which are produced with comparatively meager budgets.
"I appreciate the efforts the producers have put in to make the series as seamless as possible. Mahabharat is the celebration which every individual should be proud in every era as it is a 'war for ethics'. This title track is not just about music but about meaningful lyrics,” added.
Ismail Darbar has also contributed music for the show. The series features actors such as Shaheer Sheikh as Arjuna, Pooja Sharma as Draupadi, Aham Sharma as Karna and Saurabh Raj Jain as Lord Krishna and many others. The show went on air 16 September, Monday to Friday at 8:30 pm.
For the duo, ‘Agneepath’ was a breakthrough in Bollywood. They have fetched many awards for this film. But their contribution in Marathi Film industry has be recognised every now and then. “Currently our major Bollywood project is with Dharma Productions. We are composing two songs for the upcoming film Shuddhi featuring Hrithik Roshan. Apart from Bollywood, we are composing music for Riteish Deshmukh's debut Marathi Film 'Lai Bhari'. We have already composed five songs,” concluded Atul.
