Coke famed Mame Khan hopes to work with A R Rahman

MUMBAI: After Coke Studio, lives of many artistes have changed so is the case with Mame Khan, who is renowned artiste for his extra-ordinary skills in Rajasthani folk music. Folk music runs in his blood since his forefathers practiced the same.

Thus the concept of fusion was an alien to him. But for the very first time, he ventured into fusion, all thanks to Coke Studio 2.

“I really thank Amit Trivedi and MTV for the opportunity they gave me. People realized that my voice sounds good when it comes to something like fusion,” says Khan to Radioandmusic.com.

Speaking about his own composition, he sadly states, “The song I sung in Coke Studio was an opportunity for me but I am sure I could have done more with my own composition. If you sing for others composition it is difficult to fit, there is this emptiness as it was written and composed by someone else.”

He further adds, “The song Clintonji composed with my ‘Mama’ (Mother’s brother) was far more successful as it was my Mama who penned the lyrics. People have their own strengths. I will be very happy if someone takes mine or father’s work. I want to compose for Coke Studio with my uncle someday.”

Live music and collaboration with other artistes keeps him busy but he wishes to have his on album. “Folk music is complex. It is semi-classical. For an album I will not change the composition. Only thing that I will add is some tempo. My father and his composition is what I would use. There are lot many of such composition,” adds Khan.

He has sung songs for Bollywood films like for Luck By Chance, No one killed Jessica and I am. “It is a really great experience working in Bollywood. I have worked with many well-known artistes. In my wish list is AR Rehamanji with whom I would like to work,” concludes Khan.
