'Fleecing Led Zeppelin' filmmakers ask fans to help raise funds
MUMBAI: Makers of the Led Zeppelin documentary ‘Fleecing Led Zeppelin’ have asked fans to help raise funds in order to wrap up the project. The filmmakers need $35,000 to complete the project and are hopeful that the band’s thousands of diehard fans can help out. Director Gabe Tolliver and screenwriter Jackie May Tolliver said, “We need your help to finish the film - we need $35,000 for editing, sound design, music rights, DVD, advertising and film festivals, which ain't cheap”.
The documentary is based on an incident in 1973, when $200,000 was stolen from the band while they played a sold-out concert at Madison Square Garden. Mysteriously, the money vanished from the rock legends’ safety vault in the then-fancy Drake Hotel in New York City. While the case was left unsolved, the documentary is merely a fictitious account of what probably happened to the money.
Describing the movie, the filmmakers said, “It's a fan movie, for lovers of history, or for folks who just want to know what happened to that money. There’s no sign of the money. But somebody took it. Was it manager Peter Grant? Road manager Richard Cole? Housekeeping?”
The filmmakers have turned to project funding site- Indiegogo in an attempt to raise funds for the short film, which could later on be turned into a full length feature. Fans who donate towards the film are being offered various incentives like props, hats, poster t-shirts and much more. Donations will close on 3 November.
