15 years and counting, Submerge to launch record label

MUMBAI: Mumbai-based dance music booking agency, curators and artist management company to launch Submerge Music on November 11; first release on the label to be Manny and Ajmal’s debut album, ‘11:11’.

Pivotal to the emergence of the dance music scene in India, Submerge as a platform chat forum, promoter, booking agency and curators – has been instrumental to the explosive growth of dance music in India.

In 2018, Submerge who have in the past brought down iconic acts and underground legends like Richie Hawtin, John Digweed, Dave Seaman, Yousef, Sam Paganini among others – completes 15 years. Taking its philosophy of supporting local talent a step further, Submerge has announced the launch of its eponymous new label, Submerge Music, which will officially launch on November 11.

2018:

15 years of Submerge Founded in 2003 by Nikhil Chinapa, Pearl and Hermit Sethi, Submerge was where dance music heads in India came together. Today, Submerge manages multiple artists and curates some of the most exciting and popular dance music events in India like Satellite Beachside in Goa – a festival that features the best of Anjunadeep alongside India’s best producers and DJs like Arjun Vagale, BLOT, Ash Roy and more.

The label, to be called Submerge Music, is an important part of the ecosystem that Submerge exists in, and will provide Indian producers the opportunity of catching the attention of international listeners.

“We just felt it was time, not just for us at Submerge but also for the wealth of talent India has begun to produce in the electronic music space,” said Nikhil Chinapa, one of the Submerge founders and music entrepreneur.

“Over the years, we've promoted electronic music, regardless of its sub-genre. However at the label, we’re starting by focusing on underground music before we expand our horizons and our repertoire, both of which will happen in time. While we encourage Indian artists to push boundaries, we’re also going to actively engage in A&R work, encouraging collaborations between local and international artists. The world truly is our oyster and we're going to explore it to the fullest,” he added.

The first release on the label is by Manny and Ajmal, who have performed together in the past as BLaNK. The 11-track album called 11:11 will release on the same day the label goes live, 11 November.

With releases by house music producer and long-time Submerge resident, Browncoat, and Tuhin Mehta, Submerge’s label will give the dance music community a much-needed fillip, and will help local talent find a ready audience.

Submerge Music releases will be available across music streaming platforms like Apple Music and Beatport.
