Eurythmics to reunite for tribute performance to the Beatles

MUMBAI: Synthpop duo Eurythmics will team up for the first time since 2005 for a tribute performance to 'The Beatles' on 27 January. The duo, which comprises Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart, are slated to perform together for the Beatles special called 'The Night That Changed America: A Grammy Salute to the Beatles".

The pair released their first album in 1981 as 'The Eurythmics' and scored their first hit album in 1983 with 'Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)', which brought them global success. After releasing several other albums, the duo split up in 1990 to embark on solo careers. However, they reunited in the late 1990s to record a new album 'Peace' which was launched in 1999. In 2005, Lennox and Stewart came together once more to work on the single 'I've Got a Life' as part of their compilation album- 'Ultimate Collection'.

When talking about the performances, Grammy producer Ed Ehrlich said, "When it came around to booking this show, what I felt was important was to try and find those artists who not only would be able to interpret Beatles songs, but would also have an understanding of what they meant."

Other acts that will be performing at the event include Alicia Keys, John Legend, Keith Urban, John Mayer and Maroon 5.

While performances will take place on 27 January, a day after the award ceremony, the event will be aired on 9 February. It will also mark 50 years since 'The Beatles' iconic appearance on 'The Ed Sullivan Show' which saw an estimated viewership of 73 million.
